Moale Haus Under Inspection

By Serah Aupong – EM TV, Port Moresby

A building, housing 3 government departments, in Port Moresby is under inspection following what was described as a loud bang.

Government employees working in Moale Haus reported that last Thursday, a loud noise that sounded like something heavy was dropped on the roof of the building. The disturbance was alleged to have occured at around 12 midday.

Following the noise, cracks have appeared on the floors of the building.

The staff of the Department of Commerce and Industry showed EMTV News where the cracks have appeared.

While in the Manager’s office of the Trade Division, roofing materials have started to peel off as well.

Ruby Kopi who was in the building during the incident last week described the noise that occurred before the cracks appeared.

Essential government services will be seriously affected if this building is condemned. It houses PNG immigration and the work permit section of the labour department.

The main tenant is the Department of Trade Commerce and industry. The office of the minister for trade commerce and industry sits at the top floor of this building.

The Department of Trade Commerce and Industry moved into this building after it was newly constructed in 2003. Staff say structural engineers have visited the building to conduct necessary inspections.
