Mendi: Marijuana Plants Uprooted, Homebrew Equipment Confiscated

By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EM TV, Mendi

Mendi Police Station Commander, Inspector Peter Buka says the uprooting of marijuana plants and the confiscation of homebrew equipment has successfully rolled out, in the first two LLG’s of the Mendi-Munhiu district.

Inspector Buka says community policing and awareness has triggered the surrendering of drugs and homebrew equipment.

Karinj and Mendi Urban Districts have successfully carried out the operation.

Inspector Buka says there is great need to increase the manpower of police personnel in the province. Buka says with the road networks linking the province to Enga and Mt Hagen, police presence is needed; and for them to be stationed in “hotspots”.

Karinj LLG President and Southern Highlands Law and Order Chairman, Simon Tolpe says the cooperation by police, churches, government agencies and ward councillors has seen gradual transformation by youths’ and their behaviours, in the town.

The president said that all these changes fall under the Provincial Law and Order Master Plan put in place by the Powi Government.

Tolpe said Southern Highlands Governor, William Powi wants to see an influx government services with law and order enforced, and in place.

He is confident that the operation by police and LLG presidents will be successful, with strong community policing, and awareness being carried out.

President Tolpe called on all Southern Highlands MP’s, ward councillors and presidents to help in carrying out the operation.
