Homicide: Medical Doctor Murdered in Port Moresby

A medical doctor was been brutally murdered in Port Moresby, in the early hours of Saturday 14 February, 2015.

Doctor Joe Kumbu, 38, from Gerepo village in the Upper Waria Local Level Government in Bulolo, Morobe province, was alledgedly hit with a hard object on the head, and died instantly.

He was working as a Pediatrician consultant at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

On the early hours of Saturday morning he drove to Ensisi valley to drop off a friend when he met his fate.

His younger brother, Echo Yawip who flew in from Lae yesterday upon learning of his brother’s brutal murder, is appealing to Ensisi residents to come forth and assist police carry out their investigations.

“Doctor Joe Kumbu is an asset of this country and his brutal murder is unacceptable,” Echo said.

Doctor Kumbu was supposed to have travelled back to James Cook University, in Australia, this week to complete his Masters in Public Health and Business Administration.

He had only six months left, before he would have graduated with an MBA degree at James Cook University.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
