National Capital District Governor, Powes Parkop has reminded the media of their role in society.
He told the media during his annual media bash, that communication through the media is critical for development.
“Media was one of the founding pillars in developing this country.
“It was through media that our founding fathers like Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare, and others brought the message of nation building to the rest of the population.
“It is a noble profession that you practise that holds the nation together,” Parkop said.
Parkop started his career as a journalist in the 1970s and knows too well the challenges journalists face.
He encouraged journalists throughout the country to diligently perform their role without fear or favour and to maintain impartiality at all times.
With NCDC going through a transitional period with a lot of major developments, Parkop urged the media to continue to promote the city’s positive image.
“My vision going forward is to instil positive change not only in the development but in every individual.
“The power to be positive can change the way we view the world we live in and this is what I want for this city,” he said.
