Man on Crutches becomes Councilor Elect

Vai Manu, councilor elect for Ward 7 Mole Golo village in Rigo Districtohas vowed to bring tangible development tothe seven villages under his authority.

 

Forthe next five years, Manu, who movers around withthe support of a crutch, is determined to servethe community despite his disability.

Vai Manu was a first timer contesting inthe LLG Elections. His disability obviously did not give localsthe benefit of doubt when he successfully wonthe Ward 7 elections in Mole Golo village of Rigo District.

 

He has lived with his disability for about ten years.

 

The fther of five said he contestedthe elections because adequate services were ether lacking or inaccessible in Mole Golo.

 

Establishing a health centre in Mole Golo is an immediate service he plans to launch as soon as possible.

 

Villagers said establishing a health centre intheir LLG will save locals time and money, traveling long distances to Aroma or Kwikila. It can also save lives in case of emergencies.

 

Mr Manu is optimistic his plans will come to fruition because ofthe immense family and community support he has.

 

Meantime, Mr Manu’s election success is an added encouragement for the community of persons living with disabilities, who are currently reviewingthe 2009 National Disability Policy so that it focuses on creating an ‘inclusive’ society for people with disabilities to contribute equally to development.
