A Morobe Provincial Government medical evacuation program that suffered from funding cuts this year has come to the aid of a 24-year-old shark victim in remote Lablab in the Siassi District.
The young man was airlifted to Lae this afternoon after medical officers in Lablab found his wounds too serious to treat.
Pilots and paramedics from helicopter company, Manalos Aviation were mobilised within minutes of receiving the message from the island flew to Lablab.
“We has a call at about 2pm in the afternoon that there was a shark bite at Lablab,” said Pendex Sintong. “We got the patient in.”
Being the only Lae based helicopter company, Manalos has been at the forefront of medical evacuations in Morobe since entering into contract with the Morobe Provincial government.
The program has saved dozens of lives including women who would have died from birth complications.
This latest of the shark victim adds to the long list of rescues conducted by the Manalos Aviation team.
