Madang Police are investigating a series of killings related to sorcery claims in the Transgogol area.
Pictures of a couple that were beheaded were circulated on social media just a day after the end of a sorcery conference held by churches to combat the problem.
The brutality shown in the killings, in a village in the Transgogol area, has silenced members of the community.
Madang Police Station Commander, Chief Inspector, Jacob Bando says police are finding it difficult to make arrests, because people are not giving information about the suspects.
The killings have happened over the space of one month, it started when a man was beheaded.
In retaliation, a couple got beheaded the man’s head hasn’t been found.
The images surfaced just after a sorcery conference in Lae that involved the heads of the catholic, Lutheran, United and Pentecostal churches.
The conference brought together key architects of the law to put together a package for legislators and policy makers that will see churches use their influence stem the violence.
