The Lower Sogeri Sport Association (LSSA) kicked off its first round of soccer and volleyball matches yesterday with 44 teams participating.
Soccer teams are qualifying to represent the Lower Sogeri Sport Association for the upcoming Besta Cup.
This is the eleventh year of the competition.
The competition sees locals from 14 Mile down to 9 Mile, and even to the Goldie area, taking part in soccer and volleyball competitions.
This year’s competition also sees the inclusion of two teams from Abau and Rigo districts.
In soccer, a total of 16 men’s teams and eight teams in the women’s division are taking part. In volleyball, 10 teams each for men and women are participating.
The LSSA is registered under the PNG Football Association and players have also taken part in previous Besta Cup competitions.
For the 2016 competition, the winning team for LSSA will go on to qualify for the Besta Cup.
The top soccer teams are the Anate and Samika, both in the men’s and women’s divisions.
This competition will continue for two more weekends and is a lead up to the Central qualifier for the 2016 PNG Games.
