Lihir Students Benefit from Scheme

Over 150 students in Lihir, New Ireland Province will benefit from the Nimamar Local Level Government Tertiary Education Support Scheme costing K800, 000.

The assistance comes at a time when parents have been struggling to seek government assistance to see their children pass out of the education system. Parents are now relieved.

This year’s assistance is an increased of K150, 000 from 2012 and 2013 figures.

Forty-seven will be sent to tertiary institutions throughout the country while one hundred and seven will attend the Nimamar Franchise University Centre.

The scheme will pay for tuition, accommodation and allowances. It will assist students for the duration of their courses. Most students attending higher institutions around the country have flown out of New Ireland with their scholarship assistance for enrolment at registration.

The scheme is a second form of financial assistance by the Nimamar Local Level Government.

The scheme will continue in the coming years as more students are passing out with good grading for spaces in higher institutions and colleges.
