by Quinton Alomp – EM TV, Port Moresby

Director of the National Fraud and Anti- Corruption Directorate, Chief Superintendent Matthew Damaru, was wounded on the forehead by a lawyer.

The incident happened at around 9:30am inside his office at Konedobu.

He was taken to the St. Mary’s clinic in Boroko for treatment. Unconfirmed reports says over 12 stitches were used to sew his inner and outer skin.

The assailant was identified as Stanley Poka, a lawyer by profession and currently employed with Police Internal Affairs Division at Badili Police station in Port Moresby.

It is alleged that Stanley Poka entered Mr Damaru’s office blaming him (Damaru) for throwing out his application for a vacant position within the legal team of the directorate.

As Director Damaru attempted to respond by getting Poka’s particulars, the frustrated lawyer picked up the paper tray on the table and flung it on the forehead of Damaru.

Mr Damaru explained that Poka has some connections with Paul Paraka and because the Paul Paraka case is still pending they cannot entertained his job application.

“This will be conflict of interest,” Damaru said.

No police officers were around at the time of the incident.

Poka escaped but a formal complaint was laid and police will investigate.
