A state ceremonial welcome for the body of Justice Catherine Davani commenced this afternoon at the Jackson’s International Airport following the arrival of the casket.
Family members including, Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia, Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika, Justice Allan David, and members of the judicial and legal fraternity stood in silence as the casket was led by members of the Law and Justice Sector.
Many of the people whom the late Justice influenced their lives, wept openly.
Justice Davani died at a hospital in Brisbane, Australia last Friday while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. She was battling the ailment for a certain period of time before her passing.
She was the first Papua New Guinean woman judge to serve in the National and Supreme Court jurisdictions until her untimely death.
The casket was taken to her home at Boroko for viewing before it was taken to Dove Funeral Home.
