Landowners of the Turubu Integrated Agriculture Oil Palm Project are demanding answers for the forced shutdown of the project.
Landowners have petitioned the East Sepik Provincial Government and National Government to rectify the cancelled SABL Portion 144C to ensure the project continues.
Nearly a hundred landowners held the peaceful protest recently as the project site, calling the Government to rectify a recent decision why the Project should not continue.
They believe the K1.2 billion project will help bring the much needed services in road, health and education services to the area.
The six affected Incorporated Landowner Groups presented a 4 page petition to Turubu LLG President, David Kausic, who received it on behalf of East Sepik Governor, Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, and the National Government.
With the Supreme Court Decision cancelling SABL Portion 144C, the landowners believe the 10,000 ha land now belongs to the customary landowners.
All operations at the Turubu Satellite Township ceased late last month causing the landowners to raise this concern.
Much of the first phase construction of mills and other infrastructure are completed and if the operation is haltered, the landowners believe their 20% stake in the project will be lost.
The landowners have given the East Sepik Provincial Government and National government to respond in 5 days.
