Lae Firefighters struggled to handle another Lae City fire with the old equipments.
Flames have razed the Courts store – the second Lae fire in six days.
The fire started at around eight o’clock this morning. Within just 30 minutes, much of the building was destroyed
The Brian Bell Homecentre was destroyed on Thursday.
In just six days millions of kina worth of property destroyed.
Police were called on to the scene to stop possible looting.
The fire is understood to have started at the rear part of the courts building and spread. Initially, the flames were small but within minutes it grew to engulf the whole building.
Fire men arrived about thirty minutes after the blaze and struggled with old equipment to put out the flames.
On Thursday, fire fighters were called to stop the Brian Bell Home centre fire and saved two banks in Lae’s top town.
Fire fighters didn’t save the Brian Bell store but the blaze was averted from the BSP and Westpac bank buildings.
This is now the fifteenth fire in the last 17 months.
These Lae fires continue to expose Papua New Guinea’s limited abilities to handle fire emergencies.
