A student at Lae’s Malahang Technical High School has died from injuries sustained in a student fight.

The grade ten student died in hospital and his body was taken to the high school this morning.

The student was chased out of school premises in a student fight, beaten near the Malahang market and taken back to the school on a ten seater Land Cruiser, before being rushed to hospital in the school bus.

The student died in hospital and was taken back this morning to the school campus.

In the last three years, on-going student fights in Lae have caused the death of four children, receiving high-level attention.

Today, Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, said parents need to take more responsibility for their children and that the Morobe provincial government has zero tolerance towards school fights.

In 2013, two Bugandi students were shot by a policeman during a confrontation with other students.

In 2014, the son of a pastor was stabbed and killed with a screwdriver in Eriku.

Last year, a Bumayong student was killed in a fight.

Education Minister Nick Kuman was in Lae last week and said principals and school boards need to make tougher and more decisive action with students.

Police were at the school this morning to see the body and begin investigations.
