Sinasina-Yongomugl MP, Kerenga Kua, is determined to improve human resources in his district.
Mr Kua said producing qualified manpower in different fields will be his JDP Committee priority.
Mr Kua said this today when he officially signed an agreement with PNG’s flag carrier, Air Niugini, to jointly train two potential pilots from his electorate every two years under Air Niugini’s cadet pilot training program.
In this small but significant ceremony, Mr Kua and Air Niugini’s Chief Executive Officer, Simon Foo, signed an agreement allowing two potential pilots from Sinasina-Yongomugl district in Simbu province, to undergo pilot training with Air Niugini’s cadet program.
Under the agreement, Air Niugini will do the selection and training.
Mr Kua said so far the district has only two airline pilots which is not enough, so he initiated this program to allow more students from his district to take up careers in the aviation industry.
He said the district DSIP funds of K200, 000 will be used to pay for this worthy cause from next year onwards and Air Niugini will supplement part of the fees.
Mr Foo said they are willing to assist in such public/private arrangements.
Interested grade 12 candidates must score A's in mathematics and english.
Mr Kua further outlined other requirements. He said they will also be looking into other industries where human resources are limited.
