Kickboxers Head to Sydney

Seven kick boxers from the National Capital District (NCD) will be leaving the country this Friday to travel to Sydney. This will be the first time for the team to travel overseas and attend an international bout consisting of other overseas fighters.

The team will be traveling under the guidance of coach, Mark Sondo, who is also taking part in the tournament.

Sondo said the trip will help the team show off their talent overseas. All the fighters that are attending the kickboxing tournament are all at the national level, and have all participated at the PNG Games.

Sondo added that win or lose the team will still be champions. He will fight Chris Johnson from New Zealand, a former opponent of Stanley Nandex, with the pair having previously fought on two occasions.

Another of the team members, Freddy Marai, said fighting overseas and representing PNG is something he is proud to do. One of the more experienced fighter’s in the team, who has competed overseas four times in the past, Alex Worogop, said he is confident the boys will do well.

Some of the fighters attending are: Alex Worogop, John Ake, Tom Tompa, Freddy Marai and coach Mark Sondo.
