Kerowagi District Set To Undergo Two Major Development Projects

By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Kup road and proposed Simbu airport at Kerowagi are said to open economic opportunities.

Kerowagi MP Bari Palma says these two infrastructures will create an economic hub not only for Kerowagi, but Simbu and neighboring Jiwaka.

About K5 million has been spent on feasibility studies for the proposed airport. As ground works progress, the District is embracing this opportunity, as it is strategically along the Highlands Highway.

Phase 1 of the airport clearance and consultation has progressed. This will be followed by marking, and a contractor has been paid to complete the initial ground works.

Not much is heard about Kerowagi District, despite being in the center of the Simbu and Jiwaka provinces.

There is agriculture potential, however, no proper mechanisms to support the industry.

This has promoted the District Development Authority to build an office to house 14 international development organizations to help create sustainable projects.

Meanwhile, the local MP is calling for all communities in Kerowagi to celebrate responsibly during the Independence festivities.
