Counting for Kairuku Hiri Open Seat is progressing well at Murray Barracks Gym Hall.

The counting venue was filled with supporters of candidates and scrutineers. Yesterday, counting officials were busy sorting out Box 2 containing ballot papers from Mt Diamond all the way to Tubuserea.

Another notable group there to observe the counting was the International Election Observers from the East – West Centre. The observers were led by Team Leader Scott Kroeker. They are apart of 10 observers currently observing the election progress around the country.

Returning Officer Edward Kila confirmed that there are 40 counters responsible for the 20 Regional Candidates while 68 counters for the 34 candidates for Kairuku Hiri Open Seat as well as support staff.

The Counting Officials are also counting the ballot papers for the Regional Seat until all ballot papers for the Open Seats are completed then the ballot boxes for the Regional Seat will be transported to Taurama Barracks for the elimination round for the Regional Seat.

Meantime, Security at Murray Barracks has been all under control since day one of counting, thanks to soldiers from Murray Barracks in the Force Support Battalion with support from Kairuku Hiri Task Force.

It’s anticipated the orderly manner will continue until counting ends.
