Kadovar Islanders Oppose Proposed Relocation to inland Sepik

By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The announcement by government authorities about the relocation of Kadovar Islanders has been opposed.

Kadovar Ward Councilor, Stanley Muran, says the islanders met and have agreed to remain at Dandan.

Four main reasons were given, among them, their sustainability next to fishing grounds.

The other reason is that their children’s education has been disrupted for almost 11 months.

The affected islanders want the government to pay Dandan landowners and let them rebuild their lives.

However, Wewak MP and Inter-Government Relations Minister, Kevin Isifu, says Dandan is not suitable for a permanent resettlement.
