International Training Institute Now in Goroka

By Colleen Barilae – EM TV News, Lae

The Eastern Highlands Provincial Government has invited the International Training Institute (ITI) into the province, with student numbers set to increase accordingly.

Eastern Highlands is the first province in the region to have an ITI centre offering business and information technology courses.

The Institute’s director was invited by the provincial government to establish a centre in the area to give new opportunities for school leavers.

Governor, Julie Soso, and the provincial administration have seen the need to give Grade 12 school leavers another opportunity to get an education and reduce the amount of dropouts.

Governor Soso has been hit with criticism from other Eastern Highlands leaders saying there has been no service delivery.

“I’m working with my Local Level Government ward councilors, ward members, so my ward members are now launching and opening resource centres and learning centres everywhere.”

“The women’s associations are also getting funding from the local level government ward councils,” Governor Soso said.

The newly established centre might provide opportunities for students from as far as Chimbu, Jiwaka, and Western Highlands.
