Implement Death Penalty, says Namah

By Mickey Kavera – EM TV, Port Moresby

Vanimo Green MP, Belden Namah, wants the death penalty introduced.

Mr Namah said, the nation seriously needs a strong deterrent to crime, and the death penalty is the best option.

“We cannot continue to be lenient. It’s about time the government send a clear message to criminals.”

Laws continue to be created with less effect on the people, because they see that it is just another law which they can break and bend anytime, he said.

The PNG Council of Churches has come out strong, opposing the idea of the death penalty, citing biblical principles.

But Namah is adamant, saying enough is enough. There will opposition to the idea by churches and developed countries but that is how they have addressed their law and order problems, he said.

“We cannot continue to live in a glass house and let our women, girls and mothers be subjected to torture and inhuman treatment,” said Namah.
