By Eric Haurupma  – EM TV, Port Moresby

The IBS Melanesian School Debate Competition is focused on an awareness drive on political and economic issues of regional interest in the Melanesian Region.

It is the first ever debate championships staged for students from Melanesian island states.

The competition provides an opportunity for students within the Melanesian region to do research, participate in debates and highlight issues that impede the progress of socio-economic development.

The school debate competition held at the PNG Arts Institute yesterday featured students from respective schools in PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu debate on pressing issues of regional significance.

Ms Nades said this is the first time IBS has initiated this regional school debate to promote human resource development in the region.

This debate competition provides an avenue for students throughout Melanesia to deliver what they have understood about different issues around the region through debates.

Mrs Kenni thanked IBS for taking an initiative in organising this debate competition as a means to promote human resource development in the region.
