Hunters 2017 Champions

It was the win that brought Papua New Guinea to a standstill, for everyone: the PNG Hunters walked away with the Intrust Super Cup as 2017 Champions.

Despite a slow start in the first half, Sunshine Coast Falcons took advantage as they used their nimble forwards to break through the hunter’s territory to score their first try with in the first three minutes.

Hunters, while getting familiar with the new turf, managed to keep the Falcons at 10 points after two tries and a successful conversion. Proving their worth in the game, Hunters were not willing to give up, as they began to strike the weak points of the Falcons.

At half time whistle, it was Hunters nil, Falcons 10. In the second half, the supporters were not willing to give up hope on the Hunters, but instead, cheered the Hunters, all the way through. It was an off field connection between the Hunters and their supporters. This saw Watson Boas give the fans what they needed, a try and a successful conversion, bringing the score to Hunters 6, Falcons 10.

The remainder of the second half came, with great speed, power and agility as both played to the ear. Approaching full time, on the clock the Hunters, stood tall as warriors as they improved on their ball handling and kicking skills.

With time winding down, to less than three minutes before full time, Hunters made an unbelievable move that saw the supporters stand tip toes, as Ase Boas managed to set a try for Willie Minoga to score a try that kept the whole Suncorp stadium vocal, as Hunters came out victorious with 12 points win to Falcons 10, at full-time.

As 2017 Champions of the In trust Supper Cup, Hunters will play in the curtain raiser match against the Panthers in the NRL grand final, against the North Queens land Cowboys and the Melbourne Storms.
