In a stunner at the Bisini Grounds in Port Moresby, Huawei PS United, overcame early pressure from 2013 Grandfinalists, FC Port Moresby, to register a three – two victory.
In a tense affair, United, had to fight back after Port Moresby had taken the lead twice.
FC Pom looked sharp early on against a Huawei PS side, who’d had mixed results in the warm up matches leading to day one.
Nathan James paired up with Nathaniel Lepani threatened early as PS was forced to play defensively in the opening minutes PS with their first opportunity after 13 minutes.
Poor delivery by Senom Robert FC Pom would counter with Basil Jofari now pushed up with lepani as midfielder Aaron sexton switched flanks, Jorari himself missing an open goal mouth, but he made up for it with a beautiful cross to Lepani.
Both players continuing to threaten Huawei inexperienced defence.
And at the other end PS failed to make use however.
Young striker Nathan James also proving a handful.
Huge turning point in the match as Charles Lepani red carded after half an hour, his replacement Albert Mesulam brought under immediate pressure, as PS began to exert huge pressure.
And Francis Tulem would equalize soon after Basil Jofari however doubled the lead, Nathan James beating the offside trap.
Iamo Maneka soon found the equalizer in the second half as FC Poms one man difference began to tell as Huawei PS extended their lead with minutes remaining in the end Huawei PS United’s numerical advantage was enough to see them claim their first win of the season.
