Highway re-opens as people thank Government

The damaged section of the National Highway in the Poroma area in Nipa Kutubu, Southern Highlands Province was re-opened yesterday.

Heavy vehicles began using the road after constant rain caused flooding and damaged sections of the road last week.

The people of Nipa Kutubu thanked the O’Neill-Dion government for the five million kina relief assistance.

However, the locals are calling on the political beauracrats of Hela and Southern Highlands to work together and seal all roads, treating it as high priority.

They say the two provinces are in the heart of the billion kina LNG project and all benefits must be used in priority areas and not spent unnecessarily.

Last week three separate landslides also happened affecting the people of Hela and Nipa Kutubu electorate stopping access to major oil and gas field like Hides, Moran and Kutubu.

The Nembi Bridge was also washed away making it to sink to the bank of the river.
