Hekari Lose to Solomon’s Western United

by Jeremy Mogi – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Solomon Islands newcomers, Western United have upped the ante on their chase for the 2015 OFC Champions League title with a 3-0 victory over eight-time Papua New Guinean champions, Hekari United FC.

After keeping the match level at nil all, going into the break, it was the hosts who edged ahead in the second half; a corner kick turning into a goal-line scramble which saw the ball into the back of the net as the second and third goals came, as a result of some driven counter-attacks and classy finishing – the final strike coming courtesy of Western United’s new African import.

Captain David Muta, holding the midfield, stood out for the visitors but despite his best efforts, his team struggled to pull themselves back into the match in the wet conditions.

Hekari United will continue their build up to the 2015 OFC Champions League with a friendly against the Solomon Islands Under twenty three squad.

Meanwhile their squad is confident of retaining the 2015 Telikom National Soccer League this season.
