Health Secretary Admits to no Control Over Medical Drug Imports

Health Secretary Pascoe Kase, has admitted that the Health Department has no control over the importation of medical drugs into the country.

Secretary Kase said this was evident with the sale of medical drugs on the streets.

He says, the Department is now putting in place strict measures for the licensing of medical importers, so the contents of drugs are registered, and known.

Mr Kase made these comments during a radio broadcast yesterday in Port Moresby.

The importation of medical drugs has been an ongoing concern for health authorities.

Currently, there are prescription drugs being sold on the streets, at markets, or purchased over retail shop counters.

It has been a growing problem, and the health Department has now admitted that they do not have the process in place to properly screen, and test the integrity, and contents of imported medicines.
