PNG Under-20 Women striker Meagan Gunemba has it all; the speed, agility, technical ability and tactical know how.
This made her the golden girl, coming home with the prestigious Golden Ball from the recent OFC U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand.
A new beginning of her football career, Meagan Gunemba was the first striker outside New Zealand and Australia to win the prestigious Golden Ball.
The 18-year old was incredulous to see her name alongside some of the region’s top women footballers as a recipient of the prestigious trophy.
She scored a hat trick against Vanuatu and was in brilliant form all throughout the games.
One thing Gunemba wasn’t able to do during her trip to New Zealand, was to replicate the goal- scoring heroics of her brother Raymond Gunemba, who currently plays for Hekari Football Club.
Raymond Gunemba scored twice against the Kiwis during the 2008 OFC Olympic Qualifiers in a match that went the Kiwis way 5-2.
Meagan when first interviewed, she spoke with confidence about the team’s preparation and what to expect at the Qualifier.
Meagan says, she enjoyed all the games, but New Zealand was her favorite opponent because of their championship title.
The team went in as underdogs but returned with positive feedback.
She complimented her teammates, coaching staff, management and the OFC.
