The National Government will release K3 Billion for the reconstruction of the Highlands Highway.
Works Minister Michael Nali announced this during a visit to certain areas of the highway during the week.
The K3 Billion will be made available by the Asian Development Bank (ABD) and construction will began next April.
“We will not maintain the highway, the K3Billion will be put to reconstructing the highway from Nadzab to Kagamuga in Mt Hagen,” Minister Nali said.
A slice of the funds will be put to open missing road links and finish construction of the trans-highlands highway between Port Moresby, Gulf, Morobe and Southern Highlands Province.
“Our people need roads, and we will work on improving old networks in our remote areas so that people have access to basic services,” Nali said.
Meanwhile, the Minister commended residents in Mt Hagen for allowing the demolishing of their properties for work to start on the new four-lane road from Kagamuga to Keltiga.
“The government is expanding all its major cities, and we must accept this as it will improve our lives going forward,” Nali said.
