The National Government has announced an export tax of K15 per kilogram for sea cucumber exports in 2019.
This is to capture the resource rent on sea cucumber exports and to minimize overharvesting, which is becoming common in Papua New Guinea.
The National Fisheries Authority will be implementing this tax tariff to ensure sustainable sea cucumber fishing.
This measure is expected to generate K10 million in 2019 and applies to export companies, and not the harvesters.
