The Port Moresby Junior AFL Competition wrapped-up its 16th week-long race in the under 12, under 13, under 15 boys and under 15 girls’ grand finals at the Murray Barracks Ovals today.
Over 10 primary schools in Port Moresby have taken part in this year’s competition.
In the U-15 Boy’s Grand Final, Gerehu Primary School beat Ted Diro Primary to secure the 2014 Junior AFL title.
Following their girls’ team in making a grand final appearance, Gerehu Primary went up against the traditional green and gold of Ted Diro Primary School.
Despite injury concerns, Ted Diro took good marks in the first and second quarter, putting themselves in a great attacking position to score goals and outnumbering Gerehu’s defence in the second quarter.
Gerehu Primary, bouncing back from halftime to play catch-up footy, sealed a 9-point victory at full time, 49-40 over Ted Diro.
Both schools have participated in the roll-out of AFL PNG’s development pathway program, Niukick, and this concludes this year’s Junior AFL Competition in Port Moresby.
