In the early hours of tomorrow morning, the Australia Wallabies will open their World Cup Campaign, against the Flying Fijian’s.
Despite the 35-11 scoreline against England, Fiji’s performance sent shockwaves throughout the World of Rugby, Nemani Nadolo, Nikola Matawalu, Ben Volavola and Waisea Nayacalevu forming a sharp backline.
Given their intriguing performance against the English Roses, Wallabies Coach, Michael Cheika has named one of their strongest teams.
“I’ve really just gone for the team I feel is going to perform well in this match. We went based on the way we’ve played over the last period”, said coach Cheika.
Michael Hooper and David Pocock have been named in the forward pack alongside Scott Sio.
“Im very excited about it, I’ve had the opportunity to play alongside Michael (Hooper) and I really enjoyed it,” said Pocock.
While Quade Cooper misses out on game 1’s selection, Cheika has selected Bernard Foley to compliment Will Genia at halfback.
Matt Giteau will provide experience in the backline, with Israel Folau at fullback, Rob Horne at inside centre and Tevita Kuridrani on the wing.
One of the biggest match ups of the game will be against Wallaby Halfback, Will Genia and Fiji’s Matawalu.
Matawalu has been instrumental in driving Fiji’s pack, and controlling the game.
Something similar to Genia’s strengths.
Genia who is known for his sniper passes, often rusty but decisive box kicks and inside balls will play his second game back from injury.
With his preparations slipped under the radar, the Wallaby halfback has the attention of world rugby giants, who are eager to watch his return.
With two halves in form, and a heavy forward pack against each other, some could argue the winner of the game will be the team who capitalises on the technicalities of the breakdown.
