Air Niugini’s Port Manager in Buka, Hane Garo has been promoted to head the company’s office for the Momase Region.
General Manager for Customers and Markets, Dominic Kaumu, announced her appointment during the opening of Air Niugini’s Sales office in Buka.
Mrs Garo will head the Momase as regional sales manager,
replacing her former Alotau Port Manager, Joel Hiriets from Bougainville.
“Lastly I must thank Hane, because she did a wonderful and I am very happy, but all good things must come to an end,”
Autonomous Bougainville Government, Deputy Speaker, Francisca Semoso thanked Mrs Garo for her contribution to economic development in this challenging time, when Bougainville has ended the civil war.
“Air Niugini has recognised the work Hane did in Bougainville. Especially for a woman from another province, who came to work in the Autonomous Region, in this time, following the civil war that ended?”
“It not easy for someone from outside to accept the offer, where everybody fears to come here, because they say that we (Bougainvillean) still carry guns around, which is not even true,” Semoso said.
The outgoing Buka Port Manager has strongly emphasised customer care has to be maintained in this challenging time, especially when the competition is tough.
And the mindset of employees in the way business is conducted must be changed.
“It’s about culture change, meaning, if all the old habits of doing business still exists or need to go, they have to go. This is the biggest challenge,”
“And I am very happy for contributing to Bougainville’s development and looking forward for my new role,” Garo said.
