Frank: respect police uniforms

by Theckla Gunga – EM TV, Port Moresby

NCD and Central Divisional Police Commander, Jerry Frank has urged police personnel in NCD and Central not to abuse police uniforms.

His comment comes following an increase in the number of pictures showing police officers posing with alcohol on social media. Frank said the uniform is the pride of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) and should always be worn with respect.

He said if police personnel are engaging in liquor, it is wise to do so when not in police uniforms.

β€œThe confrontation [between members of the two disciplinary forces] was a result of alcohol consumption and ill-disciplined behaviour by members of the PNG Defence. Police officers caught drinking in police uniform will be disciplinarily charged,” said Frank.

The abuse of state uniform within the disciplinary forces in PNG has remained a concern for those in authority.

In the meantime, pictures of children of policemen and soldiers holding firearms have received much disapproval on social media.
