French territories in the Pacific have expressed their solidarity with the victims of the Paris terror attack; in New Caledonia, about 250 people gathered in central Noumea; while in Wallis and Futuna flags are being flown at half-mast.
Statements from political parties condemned the horrific events that unfolded leading up to the weekend, last week, in Paris where several terror attacks (shooting and bombing) took place in the French capital, leaving about 128 confirmed dead and many injured.
Sonia Lagarde, the mayor of Noumea stated that all of France, be it mainland or overseas territories are touched by this event.
Most of France’s overseas territories have now placed high priority on security at key points; such as airports and New Caledonia’s nickel plants declaring a state of heightened alert.
While French Polynesian mayors who flew out for this week’s annual meeting of France mayors have been cancelled due to last week’s attack.
