A solar powered plane completed its ninth leg, flying non-stop day and night when it landed in Northern California over the weekend.
This is the first aircraft to fly without fuel and on solar energy alone.
The Solar Impulse, arrived at Moffett Airfield in Northern California just before midnight, after having flown three days from Hawaii where it departed.
The pilot who flew the experimental solar plane described the thrill of his experience as something out of this world; “a miracle of technology”.
“And at every moment of the flight I was thinking I’m so privileged to be able to fly that plane, and more than all, to fly that plane in this type of world. You know when you take off in a solar airplane you fly for several days and several nights. You’re in another world. You’re in the world of concentration, of performance, of harmony, of peace, of respect,” the pilot’said.
The solar aircraft began journey around the world in March 2015, from Abu Dhabi, passing through Oman, Myanmar, China and Japan.
