Public safety authorities have utilised the Pacific Games as a learning opportunity to avoid risks in Port Moresby during the upcoming 2018 APEC conference.
Chief Fire Officer Isaac Silas said it has taught the Fire Service, Eda Ranu, Water PNG and Building Board valuable lessons on how best to reduce risk in NCD and around the nation.
Silas said buildings and infrastructure must be planned, constructed and inspected ahead of time to the highest of standards.
He said in coordination with Eda Ranu, all water supply’s have been double checked to ensure smooth flow of response during any emergency.
NCD Fire Service is providing coverage for venues including the games village, various Sir John Guise facilities and Taurama Aquatic Centre.
“The Pacific Games have taught us what needs to be done to avoid risk,” said Silas. “The games will also help keep the wider community safe.”
He said advanced planning enabled most builders and constructors to minimise risks of fire in buildings and on construction sites.
