According to the Central Bank, an estimated 70 to 75 percent of the total population is excluded from access to the formal financial sector. A large chunk of these, are women.
Because of this, the Microfinance Expansion Project has rolled out training to the provinces; and many people in remote areas have benefited from the training; more recently, in the Manus Province.
The Project recently graduated more than 2,000 men and women; now knowledgeable on saving and wisely spending money.
The training is designed to bank the unbanked, with close emphasis on closing the gender gap in financial inclusion.
