Team Fiji Ready

By Shane Saroya – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Fiji’s national swim team is well underway preparing for the Pacific Games, and team officials are pleased with the progress so far.

Papua New Guinea’s top swimmer and gold medallist, Ryan Pini, is expected to make his comeback at the Pacific Games after an unexpected retirement, and most of Papua New Guinea’s swimmers have been training overseas for swimming trials ahead of the Games.

While swimming is seen as Fiji’s strongest medal contending sport, they struggled to win gold at the previous games and are determined to produce better results this year.

With over 120 medals to be won in the pool, the Fijians are looking at taking a few. But the Papua New Guineans and New Caledonians won’t let them get away with it too easily.

Ryan Pini’s timely return to competitive swimming will increase the PNG’s swim team’s chances in securing a gold medal and topping Fiji on the medal tally.
