A 19-year-old girl was abducted, raped and murdered along Magi Highway in Central Province.
The deceased was identified by relatives as Gerebu Mea Geua, a grade nine student of Iarowari High School.
Last Sunday on the 14th of June, she was kidnapped at a bridge near Gaire Village by a man driving a ten seater Land Cruiser, claiming to be a policeman.
They drove to Dagoda and were at the junction leading to her Koiari inland village where the incident happened. Central police are aware of the report.
Identities of the suspects are known to Gerebu’s relatives; they however allowed police to carry out an investigation and let the law take its course. The incident has prompted Gerebu’s relatives from Dagoda Village in the Kairuku-Hiri District to organise a peaceful protest today along the Magi highway.
They demanded peace and respect from people from other provinces residing in Port Moresby, and the Central Province.
Cases of abduction, rape and murder have slightly increased this year in Central Province. Police are unable to confirm figures; however, criminal activity and petty crime is slowing down in the city and along the highways, according to police.
