12 former prisoners are amongst a group of people being trained in various skills as part of Lae’s ongoing support for youth in the district.
The aim of the program is to help them rebuild their lives.
The participants are ex-prisoners who have decided to turn away from crime and develop themselves into productive citizens in their communities.
Daniel Manu is a former inmate at Lae’s Buimo jail.
“After all, we see that there is no point in living life, some of us have lived aimlessly in settlements, we think there is no more hope in life, but there is,” he said.
He has realised the challenges communities face with law and order problems.
Exodus project management’s Noah Ariku has been helping the Lae district with youth trainings.
The trainees have mastered skills of writing project proposals; project management and others have been trained to become trainers.
Some have come out clear on how they find these trainings useful for them as well for the community.
Lae district continues to enhance youths in communities by providing them training opportunities equipped with information and to keep them away from crime.
