For nearly 20 years, Enga Province has been focusing on educating its population. This focus on education has reaped rewards, with many people from the province succeeding in various fields as a result.
And this focus on education is set to continue, with Australia pledging a significant amount of funding to educate the next generation of Engans.
Australian Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, was in Enga recently to announce Australia’s commitment.
The purpose of her visit to Enga was to witness firsthand the impacts of Enga province’s focus on education and health.
And she was impressed, with a province that has gone from having one of the lowest rates of literacy, to arguably the highest, by province, in PNG.
Minister Bishop also had the opportunity to visit the Mambisanda Health Centre in Wapenamanda, run by the Gutnius Lutheran Church, and to see for herself the state of this health centre that has been providing medical services for over 40 years.
