It has come to the notice of EMTV that another business has recently announced that they have purchased broadcasting rights for the National Rugby League (NRL) competition.
As exclusive public broadcaster for the NRL for the past 28 years, our commitment to our viewers and advertisers continues.
We have sought clarification from both the NRL and International Management Group (IMG), as their agents, and until such time as we receive clarification on this matter we will continue with business as usual.
Given that our reach of over 5 million viewers across Papua New Guinea is unrivalled by any other broadcaster, we consider it unlikely that the NRL would find value in migrating exclusive coverage of their sport to a platform which has a dramatically smaller footprint and capped potential for long-term growth. While it is not for us to say it would follow that any broadcasting advertising proposal for such a limited audience would have a similarly limited value.
We are very dedicated to our viewers. It is our duty of service to contribute to the development of our nation by providing the people of PNG with a high quality and content rich free-to-air television service. EMTV is the largest TV production company in PNG and our strategy going forward will, amongst other activities, include further investment in local content production, selective purchase of attractive overseas content and an unmatched investment in digital transmission technology, including a new state-of-the-art studio.
