A concerned elite from Manus has called on his people to rise up and take ownership of the developments on their land.
Mr. Wep Kanawi expressed this during the Manus Provincial Day in Port Moresby today.
He says, many Manusians are yet to realize their potential.
It’s a coincidence, the declaration of the Manus Provincial Day falls on the same day as the National Repentance Day.
For Mr. Kanawi, it means, Manusians have to take a deeper look at their destiny as a province.
He urged fellow elites of Manus to drive this destiny by playing a more active role on developments.
The Regional Processing Center has opened doors for Manusians to expose their skills. But Mr. Kanawi has not seen much of that.
He says, the agenda’s pushed by the Australian government may not be beneficial for the province in the long term.
But Andrew Gavin of the Australian High Commission in PNG’says Australia is doing all it can to assist the people of Manus
According to factsheet from the Australian High Commission, approximately 1011 PNG citizens are employed to provide services at the regional processing center, 856 of these are from Manus.
Mr. Gavin says, this labor force will be absorbed into other sectors once the construction phase at the regional processing center ends.
