EHP WOMEN IN AGRI BUSINESS

Woman in PNG play a crucial role in Agriculture in their active participation in gardening for both the household and community.

However despite this significant contributions, most of the woman are not being given the recognition they rightly deserve in the areas of meeting the rural woman’s basic needs in terms of education, Health, financial literacy skills and others.

However, the Kuli Women Farmer’s Cooperative from Ulya village in the Anglimp District of Jiwaka province was established in February last year (2022) is one of such group that aims at empowering woman folks consisting of village mothers, young girls in upgrading their training knowledge and skills to improve common gardening skills and techniques to meet the demands in the agriculture sector in the country.

The group consists of one hundred and fifty two (152) women who recently on a three days trip recently visited Aiyura and SIL in the Eastern Highlands Province as part of the planned activities for year 2023 to learn from the existing facilities and projects in the area.

Kuli Women Farmer’s Cooperative President Mrs  Serah Koim who also initiated the group said the purpose of the visit is to Empower Women Farmer’s through Agriculture and self -reliance especially in the rural areas.

Mrs Koim said this will also enhance the knowledge of participants in developing business skills and other training that is necessary to boost the mission in the sector.

The Kuli Women Farmer’s Cooperative encages in farming of citrus fruit, honey production and other agricultural crops and hopes to further expand and involve, all women in the rural parts of the province to benefit from the group.
