Eels Surprise Panthers

By Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

The bottom of the ladder, Parramatta Eels, have surprised the Penrith Panthers 26 points to 20 at Pepper Stadium in Sydney.

In form, the Panthers fullback Matt Moylan, is set to miss at least two months after he suffered a ruptured ligament to his ankle during the first 10 minutes.

For the Eels much maligned halfback, Chis Sandow, was named man of the match.

The Parramatta Eels had a flying start to the match, running away to a 12 points to nil lead 30 minutes into the game.

The Panthers were devastated when they lost in form fullback, Matt Moylan.

Just before halftime, Sandow slotted a penalty extending the Eels lead to 14 points to Nil going into halftime.

The second half saw the Eels strike again with an early try. But, the Panthers hit back, when James Segeyaro made a break when he found Yeo who rolled in to cross over for a try.

A late shot on Panthers star Jamie Soward halted their momentum, but they then struck again when Dave Simmons got over the try line to see the Panthers jump right back into the contest 8 points to 14.

The panthers continued their fight back scoring and levelled the scores at 14 all. But the Eels got right back in the lead 26 points to 14 scoring two tries.

The Panthers were not going down without a fight, closing the margin but it wasn’t enough, to see Parramatta win 26 points to 20.
