Education Minister Tours New Butuka Academy in Moresby South

Education Minister, Nick Kuman,  visited the new Butuka Academy at Sabama in Port Moresby yesterday.

He was taken on a tour around the school by Moresby South MP, Justin Tkatchenko.

Minister Kuman stressed that education remains a priority in PNG, and thanked the Moresby South MP for taking such an initiative in building the Academy.

The Butuka Academy was built through a joint Sister City Partnership between Port Moresby and Shenzhen City of China. The academy will have classes starting from elementary up to grade twelve, all in one campus with state of the art facilities, which includes a science laboratory, computer classes, music, and creative art classrooms.

Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko, says the academy will have a separate administration team that will focus on running the institution, while teachers will concentrate on teaching the students.

Minister Kuman, after touring the new facility, expressed satisfaction, saying the academy is of high quality, and the best any school could have.

He said the academy will also receive the Tuition Fee Free funding from the government.

The Academy will be officially opened by the Chinese President Xi Jin Ping, on November 17.

It will receive its first enrollment of students, next year, giving first priority to the people of Moresby South.
