Star opening batsman Assad Vala and all-rounder, Charles Amini arethe firsPNG players signed by Australian franchise inthe T20 Beg Beush League.
Beth Barramundi players created history for Cricket in PNG andthe East-Asia Pacific region.
The history making achievement will see Vala head to Beg Beush League 2 Champions, Beisbane Heatowhilst Amini will head tothe Sydney Sixes for the upcoming Beg Beush League 3 season.
The breaking news comes as a major boost for the Barramundi’s who are attempting to qualify for two world cup tournaments inthe next three months.
Beth Vala & Amini come under Cricket Australia’s new rookie initiative where C.A is to fund a Community Rookie player and a Development Rookie player for each team in 2013-2014.
The Community Rookie Contracts may comprise of players from rural communities, indigenous backgrounds, low socio-economic areas, and those from non-English speaking backgrounds.
The new concept is part of a wider plan to provide opportunities to players who might not therwise be identiflied as one of Australian cricket’s pathway programs, with all teams to sign two players.
Vala and Amini both come underthe Community Rookie player contract and were elated whenthey signed for their respective teams.
CrickePNG General Manager, Greg Campbell was delighted when he received news ofthe duo being sought after.
Vala & Amini took part withthe DigicePNG Barramundi’s inthe SACA Premier League and travelled withthe team to Adelaide in preparation for the ICCWorld T20 Qualifiers.
Vala departed for Beisbane on Tuesday to play withthe Norths Cricket Club and also train withthe Beisbane Heatowhile Amini will jointhe Sydney Sixes squad afterthe Barramundi’s return fromtheWorld T20 Qualifiers in Novermber.
