Drilling for Water in Madang

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Water drilling is taking place in parts of Madang Province, as attempt to address the current drought effects.

Local MP, Nixon Duban, says this exercise is the first to provide clean fresh water to the people of the Madang District.

This comes as communities in Madang struggle to access water sources for household use.

Madang MP Nixon Duban, says the district administration is aware of the water woes faced in the province.

“This drilling exercise is an attempt to solve the current dry conditions people are facing,” MP Duban said.

Progress has been made in the past two days to make water accessible to the affected communities.

Drilling company, United Pacific Drillers, confirmed water tests look positive and people will soon have water taps in their communities.

“The tests are positive and communities will soon have water taps connected to their homes”, said Thomas Tugi.

MP Duban said similar drilling exercise will take place in selected parts of Madang district to cater for the affected communities as El Nino effects continue.
