Two community-led projects in the Highlands aimed at accelerating the millennium development goals (MDG) have proven successful.
Rolled out in 2014, the pilot initiatives are in support of community development projects.
Recently, a delegation led by the European Union visited Western Highlands and Jiwaka to see the progress of the projects. The delegation visited Domil Village in Jiwaka and Trolga Village in Western Highlands province.
Domil, located in Jiwaka, is about to complete a cassava feed mill and poultry processing plant, while the Trolga health centre in Dei district serves a community of more than 8,000.
The community-led MDG projects are funded by the European Union, with a grant of about K3 million. It is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The project is led by the Department of National Planning and Monitoring. Its main objective is to assist the government of PNG in accelerating its MDG goals.
